V2.1 Key Feature: Voice and Text Chat
When designing or constructing an architectural project, communication is key to the project's success. From talking with team members, consultants, engineers, clients and many more, architects spend a significant amount of time communicating with others.
However, we noticed that teams often struggle to communicate quickly and effectively during the 3D modeling process, instead relying on disjointed coordination emails and calls.
We wanted to implement an easy and effective way to communicate when modeling your project. By making it easy to chat during the 3D modeling process, a team can work more quickly and efficiently with less mistakes. Therefore, we implemented voice and text chat directly into Modumate to allow for easy and instant communication between team members.
Gaming as inspiration
Modumate’s voice and text chat is based upon the chat features used in the video gaming community.
In the majority of video games, gamers are able to talk and chat to each other in real time to develop a winning strategy.
Here at Modumate, we’ve brought this technology into the architectural world. This allows architects to easily and instantly communicate with each other while building a model in Modumate, like gamers do.
You can easily communicate how a new detail should be modeled or design changes that may be desired instantly without having to leave Modumate. This can be done while modeling so one can discuss a solution to a problem while modeling it in Modumate to help avoid miscommunication.
Using Text Chat
Text chat in Modumate can be used in a multitude of ways to help your team. You can coordinate who is working on each portion of the model, discuss design changes, and ask questions to your team members.
To use text chat:
- Open the chat menu by clicking on the chat icon on the right side of the top toolbar.
- Type a message in the text box that appears.
- Press enter or click the arrow to the right of the text box to send your message.
Now your text chat will appear in the chat log. All other users in the project can view your message and respond using the chat box.
Using Voice Chat
To use Voice Chat, simply unmute yourself by clicking the microphone icon in the chat menu and start talking. All other collaborators in the project will be able to hear you. The name of the person who is talking will appear on the right side of the top toolbar.
If you need to change your microphone input or sound output follow these steps:
- Click the Modumate logo in the top left of the app.
- Select Settings.
- Click on the drop down menu next to “Microphone” to change the input source.
- Click the drop down menu next to “Speaker” to change the output source.
Try it today!
With voice and text chat implemented in Modumate, you can talk or text directly with all other members of a project without needing to exit Modumate. This can improve communication between your team in both a virtual and in-person environment.
From going over a new floor plan while modeling to communicating what portions of the model need to be prioritized next, communicating in Modumate opens opportunities for improved communication and collaboration between team members.
